Regret

As a somber graying raven,
Borne of endless forked paths,
Clawing mercilessly at your mind,
An inescapable despair
That haunts your solitary thoughts.

As a darkening stain of ink,
An indelible spot of murky black,
It soaks itself deep inside,
Impossible to be erased.

As an old, rusting nail,
It pins its point down deep within,
Lodging its roots in crevices
Where laughter, love, and light...

They'll never reach, though they may try.

So regret, that hideous, twisted claw,
Wraps its arms around your heart
And stays, a deadweight in your chest.
